Wild Game
The park is home to 76 species of mammals including four of the “Big Five”, with huge herds of buffaloes and elephants, well-camouflaged leopards and a healthy population of lions. It is also known for its giraffes; in Uganda these can only be viewed here in Kidepo Valley and Lake MBURO national park. Other species viewed regularly along the game tracks include Jackson’s hartebeest, bushbucks, Uganda kob, waterbucks and warthogs. Resident crocodiles and hippos as well as other, visiting wildlife are found along the river.
Birdlife
Aquatic birds are permanent residents at the river banks and some of the different species of water birds such as the African Fish Eagle, African Skimmer and the rare shoebill stork which can easily be seen at the banks of the river. Other bird species that can be seen include Silver Bird, Blue-napped Mouse birds, Grey-crowned Crane, Bluff-bellied Warblers, Goliath Heron and many more
Murchison Falls
The Park’s natural wonder amidst the wilderness is the view of the waterfall after the trek to the Top of the fall where the sight and sound of the Nile crashing through a 6 meter gorge into the cauldron of turbulent water 40meters below leaves you with an unforgettable sight experience. A trek to the falls is unforgettable life time adventure
Olive baboons are common along the roadsides, Blue and red-tailed monkeys and black-and-white colobus can be found in the forested sectors. The savanna-dwelling patas monkey is only found here and in Kidepo Valley National Park. Around 800 chimpanzees live in the Kaniyo Pabidi and Budongo Forests.
