Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is home to over 459 Mountain gorillas, accommodating roughly a half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas with habituated groups that can abe tracked by tourists.
Lying in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley, the parks mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rain forests, which dating back over 25,000 years with over 400 species of plants..
This biologically diverse region provides shelter to a further 120 mammals, including several primate species such as baboons and chimpanzees, as well as elephants and antelopes. There are around 350 species of birds hosted in this forest, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics. Bwindi is a home to atleast 200 butterfly species including the eight albertine rift endemics and also a home to many reptiles.
Bwindi impenetrable forest national park has four sectors i.e.
Buhoma sector in the northern sector of the park hosts the first gorilla family that was habituated and opened for gorilla tourism in in 1992 when the park was opened to tourists. There are 5 Gorilla families in Buhoma that are open for tourism i.e. Mubare Gorilla Family the first habituated group that was opened to tourists, Habinyanja Gorilla Family, Rushegura Gorilla family, Muyambi Family and Katwe Gorilla Family
Ruhija sector in the eastern part of the sector is a home of five habituated gorilla families namely Bitukura family, Kyaguriro family, Oruzogo family and Mukiza family also known as Kyaguriro B.
Rushaga sector in the southern part is one of the most visited sectors of the part because it habors the highest nymbr of gorilla family and and the only place where gorilla habituation is carried out with the Bikyingi gorilla family. This sector is home to eight gorilla families i.e. Nshongi,Kahungye,Bweza, Busingye, Bikyingi, Mishaya, Muchunguzi and Rwigi.
Nkuringo sector is also in the southern part of the park though at a higher altitude. This sector has three gorilla families Nkuringo family , Christmas Family and Bushaho
Gorilla Tracking
The most exciting and memorable activity is tracking the mountain gorilla in thick jungle. The time for tracking gorillas varies depending on where the Gorillas are located on that day. Once you have found the gorillas you will be allowed to spemd one hour with in their midst.
Gorilla Habituation
The habituation experience follows one of the families that are in the process of being accustomed to tourist visits.The habituation experience also means that a maximum of 4 tourists will spend more time with the family of gorillas (a total of 4 hours is allowed) as our team of rangers and researchers perform their daily tasks of grooming the family
The Batwa Community Experience
This Park is surrounded by the Batwa local community who once lived in the forest before it was gazetted for tourism. A visit to this indegenus community will give you an insight into their lives and how they have been assimilated into the community.
Forest/ Nature walks
Guided nature walks in Bwindi lead to some of the park’s still streams and stunning waterfalls and along the way, tourists can bask in the richness of the biodiversity of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Butterfly species and other invertebrates, birds, primates, and vegetation can also be sighted.
Birding
With over 351 bird species, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a favorite spot for birders and boasts at least 23 Albertine rift endemics

All year round
