Chimpanzees.
The park is blessed with high populations of Chimpanzee, this ranks it the top tropical rain forest in East and Central Africa for Chimpanzee trekking and habituations. The other primates found in Kibale include the black and white colobus monkey, Guereza Colobus, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, and Red-tailed Monkeys among others. red colobus and Lhotse’s monkey
Kibale consists of mixture of delicious and green trees with stratified tree crowns,a variety of ferns and moised ever green forests which contain over 351 tree species.
Bird life.
Kibale is also a great attraction with over 210 recorded species which include Red-chested Fluff tail, Red-winged Francolin, Joyful Greenbul, Green-breasted Pitta, Grey-winged Robin, Abyssinian Ground Thrush, Grey-throated Flycatcher, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher, , Uganda Woodland Warbler, White-naped Pigeon, Chestnut-winged Starling, Orange-tufted and Tiny Sunbirds, Grey-headed Olive-back African Pitta among others
The people and culture.
The people of living around kibale are warm welcoming and caring people the two tribes around the park being the Batoro and the Bakiga. Both tribes have different cultures and beliefs that are very intriguing and amazing. The locals use the forests as well and treasure it because it’s a source of various traditional products
Chimpanzee tracking is the top leading visitor activity one should not miss. In Kibale forest trekking the Chimps is scheduled twice on a daily basis, the morning shift trekking from 8:00 am and followed by the afternoon shift that starts at 2:00 pm
Chimpanzee habituation
This allows you to accompany kibales researchers and habituators as they follow chimpanzee during their daily activity helping you learn and understand or even study the chimpanzee.
You expect to see the chimpanzees coming out of their nocturnal nests between 5:30 to 6:30 before following them until they create new nests and rest for the night at 19:00. This runs during tourists low seasons of March, April, May and November
Forest hikes
This seasonal 12km hike is restricted to dry seasons of mid November to February and finally June to September. This walk explores the parks diverse scenery including riverine forests, swamp and grassland. This allows you see various animals and birds the walk starts from 8:00 and ends at 14:00 snacks and drinks should be carried. Pre-booking is highly recommended.
Childrens activities also include educational forest walks for 2 hours with trained ranger guards. Games like pond dipping ,cyanotype, photography and batik making amongst many others to keep the kids occupied and increasing their knowledge.
